You can buy the first two groups from us — and we'll tell you exactly what each one needs to be ridden legally. The heroes of our articles usually went their own way: group three, no paperwork, bike path. Don't be like them.
Helmet. Always.
Mandatory under 18, warmly recommended for adults. Asphalt doesn't care about your age — and your hairstyle survives a helmet better than a crash.
One scooter, one person
Handlebars aren't built for passengers and braking distance grows with two aboard. Save the romance for the bench — everyone rides their own machine.
Alcohol and drugs? Same as in a car
The same rules apply as for cyclists — and on powerful machines, as for drivers. Blood alcohol doesn't divide by the number of wheels. Walking is an experience too.
Lights, reflectors, visibility
After dark without lights you're just a silent silhouette between cars. White front, red rear, hi-vis vest welcome. Looking like a road worker beats not being seen at all.
Pavements are for pedestrians
Scooters don't belong on the pavement. Bike path, dedicated lane, road. Grandma with her shopping won't appreciate your slalom — and neither will the fine.
Speed by place, not by display
Just because the machine does 25 doesn't mean you should do 25 past a kindergarten. Ride at walking pace around people and test your wet braking distance in advance.
Tech: tyres, brakes, tight bolts
Once a month: tyre pressure, brake condition, handlebar bolts. Most "mysterious" crashes are just neglected maintenance. Not your thing? That's what our service is for.
Charge the battery sensibly
Original charger only, never under a duvet, never overnight unattended, never a damaged battery. We hate writing stories about burning scooters.
